WEEK 2
CYBERSECURITY LECTURE, VIDEO/VISUAL,
RESEARCH, PLANS
23th - 29th April 2020
In this second week, it's an honor that our group was having a new team member joining us. He is Chong Vei Hong, an Advanced Standing Student junior from BIA semester 3. During the lecture day of Community Service Initiative on 23th April 2020, 12 noon on Thursday, there was an invited guest Mr Ridhzwan from Cyber Security Malaysia gave us sharing and lecture regarding on Cyber issues in Malaysia, through the online platform GoToMeeting. During his given lecture and sharing session, I had understood more on the Cyber issues which have classified into different categories like Cyber Bullying, Cyber Crime, Cyber Threat, Cyber Social Media, Cyber Hoax and others; and their (Cyber Security Malaysia) role in protecting their citizens (us). Therefore there are 5 Elements of Digital Fluencies, from Cyber Awareness to Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration and Communication. For Cyber Awareness, the digital user must have a thorough understanding of one's digital footprint whilst online and securing their personal data and passwords, and respect for privacy, rights and shows empathy to other online users. For Critical Thinking, digital users must be able to differentiate between real form fake news, analyze data on social media platforms and conduct unbiased research. For Creativity, digital user must have the ability to leverage on their technological devices to build, produce and explore new ideas and work on the online platform. For Collaboration, digital user is connected globally, advocating social causes and uses technology for good to their social network. For Communication, digital user must have act between empathy on social media and be respectful and mindful of others in a globally connected world.
Therefore, our module Community Service Initiative and collaborating with Cyber Security Malaysia to do charity based work for this current academic semester. So, as the students of Bachelor of Interior Architecture, we will focus on either digital art poster with a minimum of 3 infographic proposals or a 1 minute of PSA video with a minimum of 2 proposals (the options will be suggested to the group by the lecturers) based on the content of 5 tips on PSA CyverSecurity Malaysia. The digital art poster is related to cyber crime issues like cyber bully, internet addiction or more. Meanwhile, the PSA video is related to cyber crime issues.
Based on our lecturer's comment on our last week progression posted in Padlet, Ms Norji had suggested our group to do the PSA video based on the potential of our previous researches and capability of our team. Well, basically, it was a challenges for us do get in touch with doing the PSA video because this would be our first time of doing since we are more familiar with the infographics works. But we tried to propose some ideas for content for both digital art poster and PSA video and see how would our lecturer's say on the next tutorial in week 3.
During the discussion with my team members via ZOOM on 29th April, Wednesday night, we have worked on together on deciding the target community, types of issues, research and plans. Note, based on our working style, we always discuss together and work in the same time instead of specifically identify the tasks/ roles to each of the team members to do just on their jobs (means we are not working like an example you do this part, I do this part, she/he do the part. Then your/he/she part is none of my business like that.) Therefore, our group progress and mindset of each team member are all in the same track.
In last, the target community that our group would be focus on is the kids below 12 years old, and the type of issue is Cyber Hoax. Contents below are some researches on Cyber Hoax from my group's progression on Padlet:
MAJOR CONTENT
What is the senders trying to achieve?
In many cases the senders of hoaxes are playing a prank and exploit the recipients’ gullibility in doing so. The people who forward these messages are assuming that they are doing their fellow users a favour. But by warning friends and relatives about supposed risks and dangers, they only unnerve or annoy them.
How do I recognize hoax?
Hoaxes can involve a wide range of subjects – warnings about computer viruses or supposed health risks, horror stories, conspiracy theories, calls for donations for the seriously ill and many more. All of these stories are designed to be spectacular but are not based on facts – they are simply being used as bait. In some cases, you cannot recognise hoaxes directly, so a quick search on the Internet is helpful. In other cases, you can easily see through fake messages. They often describe something that is simply not possible in this way.
Hoaxes can be shocking – and spread like a digital wildfire. Shocked and shared: hoaxes spread at lightning speed through social media.
Signs of a Hoax?
A request to forward the message to as many people as possible; the threat of consequences if you ignore the request; fake source information that would add to the credibility and so on.
For our plan for the solution, we had decided to raise awareness on this Cyber Hoax to the kids below 12 (major target) and the parents (minor target). For the kids, is to let them know what is Cyber Hoax that they can easily get involved in daily life and guidance on how can they protect themselves from this issue. For Parents, the aim is to promote awareness to them on avoiding their kids from facing this cyber issue, and guidance for them to protect their kids when the issue happen.
In the end of the week 2, each of us worked together to upload our progress to Padlet, it included the brief of our target and issue, research about Cyber Hoax, plans to raise awareness to kids and parents, ideas of the storyline for PSA video and storyboard, and reference links for the inspired video.
